As of May 2021, Russia has 74 Sukhoi Su-57 fighter jets. The Russian military plans to completely replace its current fleet of fighters with the Su-57 over time and is expected to have 286 of the jets by 2028.
The Su-57 is a fifth-generation fighter jet designed for multi-role operations, including air superiority, ground attack, reconnaissance, and electronic warfare. Its stealth technology and cutting-edge weaponry make it one of the most advanced war machines in the world. It is powered by two Saturn AL-41F1 engines, allowing it to reach speeds of up to Mach 2.35, while its range capabilities are rated somewhere between 3,800 km (2,361 mi) and 7,000 km (4,349 mi). Equipped with a wide array of armaments, onboard sensors, and electronics suites, the Su-57 can engage multiple targets simultaneously at both short and long ranges.

Russia plans to use its fleet of Su-57s mainly for air superiority missions and deep strikes. With its advanced stealth capabilities, the Su-57 is designed to be difficult to detect with today's conventional radar systems, allowing it to penetrate enemy airspace undetected. Additionally, ground forces can rely on the Su-57 for close air support due to its range capabilities and an onboard array of missiles, bombs, and guns. Its unique sensor and electronic suites are also invaluable for reconnaissance operations and battlefield surveillance against both surface and airborne targets.
The Su-57 is one of the world's most advanced and capable fighter jets, which is why Russia has deployed 78 of them as part of its air force. With a top speed of 2,200 kilometers per hour, a range of 3,500 kilometers on internal fuel, and over 5000 with external tanks, it can easily outmaneuver other fourth-generation fighters and even give fifth-generation fighters like the F-22 and F-35 a run for their money. Furthermore, it's now equipped with hypersonic missiles, which gives it an advantage over nearby threats.
While Russia is currently the only country utilizing Sukhoi Su-57 fighter jets, other countries are negotiating with Russia to purchase the jet. The first of these deals came from India in 2019 for 5 Su-57s and plans for more later.
