Pillars of Creation

NASA's Hubble Space Telescope created its famous Pillars of Creation famous with the first image it captured in 1995. It revisited the scene in 2014 to show an even more detailed, sharper image in visible light which is shown below at left. A newnear-infrared light view taken by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, shown at right, allows us to look deeper into the dust in the region that is forming stars. The dusty, thick brown pillars aren't as opaque , and other red stars still forming are revealed.

NASA's James Webb Space Telescope has captured a lush and highly detailed landscape - the famous Pillars of Creation. They are in which new stars are emerging amid dense clouds of dust and gas. The three-dimensional pillars resemble impressive rock formations but are more permeable. These columns are composed of cool interstellar gas as well as dust that appear to be - at times - semi-transparent near-infrared light.

Webb's fresh image of the Pillars of Creation, first famously observed through NASA's Hubble Space Telescope in 1995 The images will assist researchers improve their understanding of star formation by revealing the more precise count of stars that have formed recently, as well as the amount of dust and gas that are present in the region. As time passes they will start to gain a better knowledge of the process by which stars develop and emerge from dusty clouds that have accumulated over thousands of years.

Newly formed stars are the scene stealers in this photo taken by Webb's Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam). These are the bright red orbs which usually have diffraction spikes and sit outside of dusty pillars. When knots that are large enough are formed within the pillars of dust and gas they begin to break apart due to gravity. They slowly heating to create new stars.

What are the wavy lines that appear like lava along the edges of pillars? These are ejections of Stars still growing in the dust and gas. Stars that are young periodically release supersonic jets, which meet with cloudy material, such as these massive pillars. Sometimes, this can result in bow shocks. These may form wavy patterns, similar to what boats do when it travels through the water. The bright red glow is due to the hydrogen molecules that are energetic and result from shocks and jets. This can be seen in the third and second two pillars at the top of the image and the NIRCam image seems to be moving with their activity. The young stars are believed to be just several hundred thousand years old.

While it could appear that near-infrared light allows Webb to "pierce through" clouds to reveal cosmic distances far beyond the pillars, there are no galaxies seen in this view. Instead, a mixture of dust and gas that is translucent called"the interstellar medium located in the driest region of the Milky Way galaxy's disk blocks our view of a large portion of the vastness of the universe.

This image was captured by Hubble in 1995 and revisited in 2014 However, a variety of other observatories have also looked in awe at the region. Each instrument is a breakthrough in technology, providing researchers fresh information on this area, which is full of stars.

The photo is set in the vast Eagle Nebula, which lies just 6,500 light years away.

The James Webb Space Telescope is the most important observatory for space science. Webb will unravel mysteries within the solar system of our planet, gaze at distant planets orbiting the other star, as well as explore the mysterious structures and the origins of our universe as well as our place within it. Webb is an inter-governmental project that is led by NASA along with its partners ESA (European Space Agency) and CSA (Canadian Space Agency).
