Japanese lunar lander set to launch on Nov. 28 by the earliest date.


Japan's ispace anticipates SpaceX will launch their lunar spacecraft on Nov. 28 by the latest for an attempt to reach the moon's surface around five months after.

The company stated that on that on Nov. 17 that its HAKUTO R M1 lander will launch on the Falcon 9 at 3:46 a.m Eastern from the Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida, subject to weather conditions and other factors.

This would put M1 on track to land on the moon by around the end of April, when it would deliver lunar payloads for the UAE-based Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, the Japanese space agency JAXA and commercial firms in Japan and Canada.

In addition, the company announced that on Nov. 17 that it had chosen the Atlas Crater located in Mare Frigoris to the far north of the moon for its primary landing location.

A landing on the southeastern portion of Mare Frigoris -- one of the moon's dark basaltic plainsit would give M1 with continuous sunlight energy and the ability to see Earth for communication Ispace said. Alternative landing locations are Lacus Somniorum, Sinus Iridium and Oceanus Procellarum.

M1's plan for a low-energy trajectory towards the moon required the lunar lander to be equipped with its Falcon 9 practically to itself.

After dissociating from the rocket approximately an hour after liftoff it will take around four months before it reaches the lunar orbit using several propelling maneuvers.

After being in lunar orbit, it will take approximately two weeks for Ispace to execute the maneuvers and checks it requires to start an eject sequence that it anticipates taking about one hours to finish.

The other spacecraft that is joining M1 with Falcon 9 Falcon 9 as a secondary payload is NASA's Lunar Flashlight spacecraft, which is about the size of six cubesats. The spacecraft is created to look the evidence for water ice inside the moon's south pole in a highly circular orbit.

M1 is the very first in the series of landingers that Ispace plans to launch on the moon's surface. The next mission is planned for 2024.

The 12 year-old company, which employed 214 people at the end of October, announced it was able to cover its initial mission using insurance from Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance, a Tokyo-based firm that first began working with ispace in the year 2019.

According to the ispace November. 17 press announcement the policy "covers all aspects of the moment of launch of rocket that carried the lunar lander all the way to the creation of communications as well as data exchanges among the lunar lander and mission control after an landing at the moon's surface."

The global insurance broker Marsh was a supporter of the policy which covers only the lander and not its payloads.
